Little Marley Fire Trail, Royal National Park
Little Marley Fire Trail in the Royal National park is an excellent mountain bike track. It’s approximately 15km return journey. At the very start there is a sandy patch. I was hoping the track wasn’t going to be sand for most of the way. Riding on sand isn’t that much fun. After the first 20 meters that was about it as far as sand went. The rest of the trail is in good condition and excellent for mountain biking. Heading down to the beach is a nice steady downhill run. It’s always special riding towards the ocean. You get a good view of Marley lagoon as well.
When you hit the coastal trail you’ll need to dismount as no mountain bike riding is allowed on this track. It’s purely for bushwalking. You can then turn left and relax on Big Marley or go right and enjoy Little Marley. The 3rd option is to do both. Take the swimmers and had a dip in the ocean.
You could probably walk around to the Big Marley fire trail and head back making a nice loop. Though I just went straight back to the car and thought I’d leave mountain bike riding the Big Marley fire trail for another day.
On the way back I nearly had a head-on with an eastern brown snake. Can’t believe I didn’t see it as it was lying right across the trail. I had my GoPro on at the time and it makes for good viewing.

See the clip below and try not to laugh too hard at my squeals.
The clip below shows the highlights of mountain bike down the Little Marley fire trail:
The youtube clip below is of a brown snake I came across on the Little Marley Trail in the Royal National Park. They seem to like sun baking first thing in the morning.
