Meryla Pass is one exciting mountain bike ride. The 500m descent run once you hit the Griffins fire trail lasts for around 5km. There are plenty of switchbacks and waterbars for a bit of air time. If you have time to look around you’ll see some amazing scenery along the way down. People also bush walk on this trail so keep a look out for them and be a bit wary of your speed.
At the bottom is Griffins farm and Yarrunga Creek. Griffins farm is worth a look if you have time. Some nice old ruins to explore. Most times Yarrunga Creek isn’t too bad to cross. However after a bit of rain you may have to get a bit wet. The times I’ve crossed it’s been fine.
You might want to consider a car shuffle if you don’t want to slog your way back up to Fitzroy Falls for a 48km round trip. If you are car shuffling you might want to consider riding:
- The beehive fire trial at the bottom of the Griffins fire trail.
- The Wombat Hill fire trail at the top of the Griffins fire trail.
- or both.
I highly recommend doing the Meryla Pass mountain bike ride.
Directions to Meryla Pass trail head.
Google Map Link. There are a couple of places to start riding the Meryla Pass trail. One is on the corner of Gwen Rd and Redhills firetrail. This is a great place to start but parking is very limited.
Google Map Link. The other place to start is at the Fitzroy Falls visitors centre. There is plenty of park here. Though it will involve a short ride on Norwa Road to get to Gwen Rd.
