Forest Island, Royal National Park

The Forest Path in the Royal National Park loops around Forest Island for around 4.5km. It runs along the Hacking River to add to the scenery. The walk has a real rain forest feel about it. Ferns, moss and tall limber all over the place. There hadn’t been rain for a while when I went and the Hacking river was low. You can see how high the river gets by some of the clumps of debris in trees. There are photo’s in the gallery showing how high the Hacking River gets in this area after a down poor of rain. Differently worth a look after show heavy showers have hit the area. Though the track would be extremely muddy due to the rain forest nature of the track.

Best starting point is at the end of Lady Carrington Drive, Royal National Park off Sir Bertram Stevens Drive and Lady Wakehurst Drive. You can park your car there and do the loop.

Alternatively if your getting public transport you can start at Waterfall station. Or just park your car at the station. This route turns the buskwalk into a 14km hike. It’s the way I went and I felt it when I finished. The track from Waterfall to Forest Path is a bit ordinary in bits. It’s over grown and very rocky and a bit step. Having said that some sections are good but it’s second rate compared to the Forest Path section.
