There are a number of kayaking day trips you can do on the Shoalhaven River. If your launching the kayak from Nowra you could head towards Seven Mile Beach or paddle in-land.

Kayaking towards Seven Mile beach is best to do at high tide as the water can get shallow when looping around the islands and you could be up for a log drag. This paddle will take you around Pig Island, Numbaa Island and if your up for a 20+km kayak then you could do the triple island loop and go around Kurrajong Island as well. I normally just paddle the double. There are power boats that use this section of the Shoalhaven River and it can get chopper with strong currents. So I’ve rated it a medium paddle. However anyone with a bit of paddling ability will have no issues. Note paddling all the way to Seven Mile beach from this point would be too much of a stretch and your better off launching at Shoalhaven heads for this trip. For more information see the Shoalhaven River Seven Mile Beach page.

Going in-land from Nowra Bridge is also an excellent paddle. It will take you past the Shoalhaven Zoo and through very scenic parts of the river. If paddling in this direction I highly recommend going down Cabbage Tree Creek. It’s extremely scenic and I think there would be a water flowing about a bit of rain. There wasn’t the day I went. This section is popular with skiers. However they didn’t pose much of an issue the day I did this trip.

Another option in this area is Bomaderry Creek. Launch at Lions park boat Ramp. See below in drections. I’m hoping to do this paddle sometime soon. From what I have read it’s a 6km return trip with amazing views and should be done at high tide.

Paddling in this area is a treat and I highly recommend you get down there and check it out.
